The Llanberis Lake Railway is a well-established tourist attraction running along the eastern shore of Llyn Padarn, which is remote from the village of Llanberis. The Railway Company wanted to expand the tourist attraction towards Llanberis, with the aim of improving the visitor experience on offer.
RBA was commissioned to provide full Project Management, Design and Contract Administration to create a 700m extension to the railway line, including a 33m single span bridge over Afon-y-Bala, new level crossings and the terminus station in Llanberis Village. The scheme included alteration to the existing road layout in order to achieve a single corridor to accommodate tourist traffic and the railway extension. We were responsible for the design of the highway and railway and associated infrastructure works, and developed detailed designs and specifications, sought tenders and provided full site supervision with contract administration for the duration of the construction phase.
The works created a more visible and alluring presence of the ‘offer’ to visitors and a better experience for them, through the expanded facilities which sit harmoniously within their surroundings in the Snowdonia National Park.
